This week we’re launching our new Strategic Plan 2026–2030 to end factory farming by 2040.

We’ll be leading with solutions, and uniting people behind a more compassionate, nature- friendly future. As climate breakdown, biodiversity loss and public health crises become the new normal, people are increasingly demanding action from governments, businesses, and global institutions.

The world is waking up to the urgent need to transform food systems – and animal welfare must be at the heart of that change.

Two pillars, one mission

Our strategy brings greater clarity to who we are and how we work. We are organised around two strategic pillars that reflect the two sides of our impact:

Creating better lives for animals today by raising welfare standards in our current food system.
Transforming the world tomorrow by changing the way we farm and produce food, for the benefit of animals, people, and the planet.

Across both pillars, we focus on influencing policy, corporations, and finance at international, national and regional levels – from the UN to individual countries and companies.

A pivotal moment

The next five years are pivotal on the global stage. The final stretch of the UN Sustainable Development Goals – and the shaping of what comes next – is the most transformative opportunity for food systems change this decade.

Our UN work is now sharply focused on three North Star principles:

Feeding people first.
Consumption within planetary boundaries.
One Health: a recognition of the interconnectedness of animal, human, and planetary health.

These will guide our efforts to embed animal welfare into global development goals beyond 2030.

We are also developing a new Global South strategy, starting in Southern Africa. This will centre on listening, mapping aligned organisations, and helping amplify grassroots visions for future food systems which recognise the reality on the ground.

Hope, not fear

Our strategy is grounded in hope, not fear. We will lead with solutions that show how compassion for animals unlocks better outcomes for all – bringing together animal welfare, environmental action, and human wellbeing.

And while we drive long term systems change, we will continue to stand up for the billions of animals trapped in factory farms today.
