The number of fish being fed to one factory farmed salmon varies, depending on the size of the wild fish caught and the composition of the fish feed itself. Our conservative calculations indicate that the number required to feed an average Scottish farmed salmon can vary between 150 to 350.
In order to find out which wild fish can be bought without contributing to the decline of marine ecosystems we encourage our supporters to go the website of the Marine Conservation Society who have a detailed Good Fish Guide. As a rule, it is always better to buy local fish from a small, non-industrial operation.
